Things You'll Need:
- Fine-tooth comb
- Cutting shears
-
Step 1
Stand in front of your client. It may be helpful to turn her away from the mirror so she isn't tempted to look up at the mirror. Additionally, if you have her turned away from the mirror, you don't end up with your backside in front of the mirror.
-
Step 2
Section off the front of the damp, curly hair. This section should extend from the left side of the face, at the temples, to the right side, at the temples.
-
Step 3
Use a fine-tooth comb to comb out the hair until it lays flat and smooth.
-
Step 4
Double-check that your client's chin is pointing down toward her chest and that her legs and arms are uncrossed.
-
Step 5
Comb through the middle portion of the front section. Slide your middle and index fingers down the hair, with the hair in between them. Once you reach the ends, turn your fingers so your palm is facing you and your middle finger is positioned below the index finger.
-
Step 6
Trim the ends that rest along your middle finger.
-
Step 7
Move outward, to the sides. Comb each portion and trim the ends. As you move outward, angle the hair slightly. After the front cut, the curly hair should have a rounded shape, with the shortest part in the center.
