The dress blues march of the United States military is a beautiful and prestigious act. Done with precision timing, it takes practice and a conscious awareness of what everyone else is doing. There is that uncalculated, unforeseen moment however when you find yourself slightly out of step with cadence. The military stutter step is a half-step to help you get back into sync with the cadence.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Recognize that you actually are out of step with the rest of your team. Whether your team is an entire battalion or the Color Guard made up of 4 individuals, you must be aware of the cadence.
Step2
Kick the heel of your front foot with the toe of your back foot in a short half-step. You may have to kick it twice depending on the current speed of cadence. This maneuver will get your left foot back on the ground when everyone else's left foot is landing.
Step3
Take a quick second to make sure you're back in sync. If you're off even slightly it will be obvious to all who are watching. If necessary, do the stutter step one more time so you can become one fluid motion with the rest of your team.
