Smith Micro Software has 3D animation software called Poser that allows users to create a variety of 3D animation. Poser software focuses on rendering animals and human figures. Poser lets users turn photos and images of people into 3D animated characters in the program's Face Room.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open the Poser program and click on "New Project."

  2. Step 2

Click on "Character" and choose "Import Image." When the window loads, find the photo you want to use and click "OK." Click on the "Face Room" button and then click the image you want to use.

  3. Step 3

Crop the image and follow the directions on the screen. The program asks you to move the box over the face until the box cover only shows the face in the photo.

  4. Step 4

Pick the shape of the face from the options provided. The face from the photo appears on the screen with red lines and dots on it. To the right of that picture is a preview frame. This shows you how the 3D character will appear.

  5. Step 5

Start with the eyes. Move the lines around the eyes to fit the photo. The eyes are now lined up with the eyes in the preview screen.

  6. Step 6

Edit the nose and mouth. Move the lines to outline each feature. Keep an eye on the preview screen to see the changes.

  7. Step 7

Pull the outside lines to fit the edges of the face. Check the preview again and get the face lined up correctly.

  8. Step 8

Choose a location on the hard drive where you want to save the face. Click on the drop down-menu and select the file extension to save to. Click "Save" when you are ready.
