Wheel bearings need to be greased to prevent damage. Your wheels could lock if the wheel bearings are damaged from insufficient lubrication. You should use nonabrasive grease; here's how.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wheel bearing grease
  1. Step 1

Glob grease onto your palm. You need to use grease that has a high melting point.

  2. Step 2

Force bearing edge into the grease. You want to make sure the grease fills all the crevices of the bearing. You need the bearing to be packed with grease.

  3. Step 3

Replace the inner bearing. You'll need to install a new inner seal, since it was broken to remove the inner bearing.

  4. Step 4

Grease between the rollers, cones and cage. You want to maintain proper lubrication to prevent bearing damage.

  5. Step 5

Pack grease into the wheel hub. You want the depth of grease to be level with the outside diameter of the cup.

Tips & Warnings
  • To cut down on the messiness of wheel bearing grease, you can use a grease-packing tool.
