A motorcycle manifold is a piece of the motorcycle's engine that delivers the fuel and air mixture to the engine cylinders. A properly adjusted and functioning manifold ensures that the motorcycle runs as safely and efficiently as possible. If you want to work on your motorcycle engine instead of hiring someone else to do it, it's important to know how to remove the manifold.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wrench
  1. Step 1

Locate the manifold on the bike. It's a small part on the engine which can be made from metal, plastic or composites. It's often shaped like a small tube or pipe.

  2. Step 2

Remove the bolts that are holding the manifold in place by unscrewing them with an Allen wrench. There are typically four bolts which need to be removed, although there may be more or less depending on the make and model of the motorcycle.

  3. Step 3

Pull the manifold off of the bike after taking out the bolts. It'll pull off easily and should give no resistance when you attempt to remove it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Look for special tools to use to remove the manifold. There are ratchet Allen wrenches and wrenches with the heads tilted at special angles which can come in handy when you're working in the confined spaces of a motorcycle engine.
  • Depending on the make and model of the motorcycle, it may be necessary to remove the horn first in order to remove the manifold. If the horn is blocking your access to any part of the manifold, simply remove it before beginning to work with the manifold.
