Knowing how to replace the manifold on your motorcycle can save you time, money and the hassle of taking it to a professional motorcycle mechanic. Plus it offers you the chance to become more familiar with your bike and learn about the motor.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Secure the motorcycle on a lift or motorcycle jack. You can do the work with it on a kickstand, though the motorcycle will not be stable. The same goes with the portable jack. In regards to the lift, make sure the bike is strapped down correctly. Vinyl straps are the most preferred since they prevent stretching on the bike.

  2. Step 2

Locate the choke cable. The choke itself is a knob located next to the motor. It is used to help start and keep the bike going. There is a cable that goes from the choke knob to the carburettor. This will need to be disconnected in order to service the carburettor and replace the manifold.

  3. Step 3

Use a 11/16 wrench to loosen the nut on the end of the choke cable. Once you break it loose, you can use your fingers to loosen it completely and remove it. This does not need to be done from the choke itself, but hang the cable out of the way while continuing on with your project.

  4. Step 4

Tighten the cable carefully when re-installing, as you don't want to get the choke cable too tight. This can cause the choke not to work correctly, resulting in the malfunction of other components of your motorcycle engine.
