Step 1
Use CD-RWs, or rewritable compact discs to save small projects. CD-RWs are the least expensive form of memory storage, but will only store up to 700MB. They are easy to transport. You are required to have a CD burner in your computer to use these.

Step 2
Try DVD-RWs. These are rewritable DVDs which are just slightly more expensive than CDs. Your computer needs to have a DVD burner to use these. These will hold more files than a CD, up to several gigabytes.

Step 3
Shop around for external drives. These are zip drives that connect right into your computer like an internal drive, but are very mobile and don't loose information when shut down. They range greatly in price and storage capacity.
-
Step 4
Consider a USB flash drive. These are very portable, most fitting on a key chain. They are only two-three inches long and plug right into the front of a computer. They can store up to 2 gigabytes of data. Prices range greatly according to quality.

Step 5
Think about online storage. Most of these require a monthly subscription. This kind of service is limitless in the amount of storage available. Many businesses favor this service singe it provides back-up that is a different location, protecting from fires or natural disasters. The data is accessible online. Be sure the company is reputable though.
