Board stall and 180 turns are essential moves in the street skating bag of tricks. Every basic skateboarding move is transferable to a host of skating actions. Always wear a helmet when practicing your skateboarding moves, such as a board stall on a quarter pipe ramp.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Approach the skateboarding ramp in the usual fashion at a medium speed with your knees bent and your arms down by the side. These instructions are for a quarter pipe ramp but other ramps sizes and styles provide acceptable alternatives.

  2. Step 2

Prepare to lift the front trucks of your skateboard over the lip of the ramp. Place the body's weight on the back of the board while allowing the front of the board to come off the ground as you move forward and over the edge.

  3. Step 3

Land the front of the board on the other side of the rim or coping and stall the board at the top of the ramp. This means you'll stop moving momentarily with the board front firmly on the coping and the back of the board held on the surface of the ramp. At this point, your legs are straightened.

  4. Step 4

Pivot the back wheels as they lie still on the ramp. This means to twist the wheels so they go from a forward position to a reverse position. Shift your weight from the front of the board to the back to accommodate the move.

  5. Step 5

Dip the skateboard back down the ramp by pushing down on the front edge with your foot.

  6. Step 6

Bend your knees to begin the propulsion for skating back down the ramp. Allow yourself to roll gracefully away.

  7. Step 7

Complete Steps 1 through 6 in one smooth continuous stream. It may take a little practice before you master this skill, so don't give up on the first try.
