The first trick any skater should learn when they begin riding switch is the Ollie. This simple jump tests your coordination with the other side of your balance. Once you have this mastered, you can be creative with switch Ollies and can transition into several tricks.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Perform a Switch Ollie North. Roll into this trick like a normal Ollie but apply extra pressure on the rear of the board while jumping. The front, or north, end of your board will be much higher.

  2. Step 2

Alternate this trick with a Switch Ollie South. Begin this trick like a normal Ollie but reverse the pressure and concentrate the pressure on the front of the board. This will tip your back, or south, end up higher.

  3. Step 3

Lead with your weakside foot to perform a Switch 180. Complete a normal Ollie where your front wheels hit the ground first. Instead of allowing your rear wheels to touch down too, keep your weight forward and whip the backside of your board around 180 degrees. Now you will be leading with the foot on your strong side.

  4. Step 4

Work your way into a Switch Kick Flip after mastering the tricks above. Lift your board in a traditional Switch Ollie, but place pressure on your heels. If done correctly, your board will flip completely over, doing a somersault under your feet and end right side up. You will land on the board and keep rolling.

  5. Step 5

Place pressure on the board's rear and side for a Switch Shove It. Your Ollie will have the board spinning completely around underneath your feet, so the end that was your backside is now the lead side of the board.
