Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Learn how to hold the guitar and the basic chords. This is the basis for any guitar playing. The position in which you hold the guitar can be adjusted according to your dominant hand. The chords are the same basic chords you play with all instruments, made with a combination of the strings and frets.

  2. Step 2

Find a copy of "Natural D Blues" by Wes Montgomery. Riverside Productions puts out an album called "Incredible Jazz Guitar by Wes Montgomery." Talk to your local music store about ordering a copy if they don't otherwise carry it in stock. Check your local library, too.

  3. Step 3

Listen carefully to the first and second choruses of the song. Try to recreate them. Don't worry about making it exact, because, as with all good music, putting your own interpretation into the song is a great way to become more familiar with the jazz guitar.

  4. Step 4

Check to see that your guitar is tuned correctly. Then practice playing the first couple of licks in different places on the neck. While this will give a slightly different sound, it is the tone that counts.
