How to Fill Buckets for Window Washing

Window washing is no fun if you have to run back and forth to the sink. It's easier to have buckets on hand so you can wash and save your energy at the same time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pick out a bucket or buckets to use. Plastic is less expensive, but metal buckets can be filled higher and are more durable.

  2. Step 2

Make sure your squeegee can fit comfortably inside the bucket without scraping the sides. You'll need to dip the squeegee into the bucket frequently while washing.

  3. Step 3

Find a water outlet. If you're in a home, it's easier and faster to fill your buckets in the bathtub. If you're in a commercial area where water outlets don't have handles, you'll need a water key to turn on the water.

  4. Step 4

Fill your bucket with water and dishwashing soap or any cleaning solution you want to use. It's best to use hot water.

  5. Step 5

Use a sprayer attachment in order create more bubbles if you're using soap or a cleaning solution. You may need to have an extra bucket for rinse water if you're using a lot of soap because your windows are extremely dirty.

Tips & Warnings
  • It's best to wash windows on a cloudy day so your solution won't dry too fast on the window and leave streaks.
  • Don't use a bucket of water that has too much foam--an inch thick is too much.

on 8/21/2009 God Bless this website for featuring this most informative and useful article. I only had to read step 1 in order to overcome a lifelong issue I've had with this "bucket" business. Because the author took the time to recommend the use of either plastic or metal vis a vis the "bucket," I now realize that the wicker basket I've attempted to use as the vessel for my soap and water is indeed not the best choice (something I was beginning to suspect over the course of the past couple of years, to be perfectly honest with you).

Articles such as this are invaluable to me, in terms of improving my quality of life. Accordingly, I believe it is incumbent upon me to post positive comments on each.
