How to Clean Window Frames While Washing Windows

Cleaning window frames is an important part of washing windows. Some people wash their windows without ever cleaning the tracks or frames which is actually where most of the dirt accumulates.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place newspaper or towels underneath your windows before you clean them. This will keep the floor or ground from getting wet.

  2. Step 2

Prepare to wipe down your window frames after you have wetted and scrubbed your windows. If you wipe the frames after you have squeegeed the window instead of before, you may have to clean your windows again because your wipe towel may leave streaks.

  3. Step 3

Wet and scrub your windows using a window scrubber. Make sure you scrub out any rough spots of dirt.

  4. Step 4

Take a clean dry rag and wipe down the frames, edges and window sills. Work quickly so the windows won't dry before you get a chance to squeegee them.

  5. Step 5

Squeegee your windows after you've thoroughly wiped down the frames. Wipe off your squeegee with your rag after each stroke.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wash the outside of your windows first since this is where most of the dirt accumulates.
  • If you're doing an annual window cleaning, also wash or vacuum any window blinds, curtains and screens.
  • Don't dry your windows with paper towels if you don't have a squeegee or you'll leave streaks and lint. Use cloth or newspaper.
