Step 1
Check the area around you before you pick up the ladder from your garage, truck, or wherever it's stored. Make sure there are no obstacles in your path that you can trip over or run into with the ladder.
-
Step 2
Determine the most comfortable way for you to carry the ladder. Grasp a rung in each hand and try carrying it both vertically and horizontally. If you're carrying the ladder quite a distance before reaching a window to wash, it may be easier to carry it horizontally.
-
Step 3
Prop your ladder up against the wall under or next to the window you'll be washing. Make sure the feet are secure.
-
Step 4
Make sure the rungs of the ladder are angled toward you. Your feet need to lay flat on the rungs when you climb.
-
Step 5
Grasp your ladder by two rungs, one above your head and one below your waist, in order to move your ladder to a different spot on the building. Be careful not to knock against any roof overhangs, window frames, landscaping or anything else that could get damaged.
