One of the most common do-it-yourself projects is removing sliding screen door. If the screen has a hole or rip this is a low cost fix. There's no need to buy an entire new sliding screen door, typically the repair only requires replacement of the screen.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Screw driver
  1. Step 1

Loosen the tension screws at the bottom of the sliding screen door. There is a screw at each end of the door that controls one of two wheels in the door.

  2. Step 2

Use a screwdriver to turn the screw clockwise. This allows the wheel to loosen up enough to pull the door from the frame.

  3. Step 3

Push a flat head screw driver under one of the door wheels, and slowly pry the wheel up and door out of the frame. Use a modest amount of pressure on the wheel. Repeat the same process for the second wheel on the opposite side of the door.

  4. Step 4

Stand up, and grasp the door with a hand on each side. Pull the bottom of the door out first, and then angle the top out until it's free from the frame.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the wheels don't have enough room to pop out of the frame after you've loosened the tension screws, continue to loosen them until you can release the door.
  • Some doors lift out of the frame without having to release the wheel tension. Just push the door up towards the top of the frame and pull the bottom out first if the wheels clear the frame.
  • Be careful not to break any plastic door parts like the wheels when you push the screw driver in place or pull the door out.
