Juggling with 4 balls is a good basis for learning to juggle with other even numbers of balls, like 6 or 8. When you juggle with an even number of balls, you are able to incorporate a number of interesting tricks and patterns that you can learn on 4 balls and incorporate into your juggling routine. Splits are one of the most visually interesting patterns for 4 balls.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 juggling balls or bags
  1. Step 1

Learn to juggle 4 balls in Columns first, before attempting to learn Splits. Practice doing synchronous Columns with 2 balls in each hand until you feel very comfortable with the Column Pattern.

  2. Step 2

Practice switching Columns to prepare yourself for the Split Technique. Switch the columns from one hand to the other to mimic the hand technique you will use for the Split Pattern, which simply splits the technique in half.

  3. Step 3

Throw 2 balls from one side of the body over towards the other side of the body, holding on to the other 2 balls in your hands.

  4. Step 4

Move your hands over to the other side of your body to throw again and catch. Continue to switch sides, throwing 2 balls, one from each hand, to the opposite side of your body.

  5. Step 5

Practice doing the Split with crossing throws instead of just parallel throws for an even more impressive visual affect.

Tips & Warnings
  • Once you learn the Split Juggling Pattern with balls, you can switch to throwing clubs using the same pattern. If you're just starting to learn to juggle clubs, this is a favorite club juggling pattern and might be a good pattern to start with once you have already learned it with balls.
