Juggling throws typically require at least one transition between different types of throws, and if you're juggling with 4 balls many of the tricks you'll want to do require 2 transitions rather than one, especially if you're performing for an audience by continuously juggling for any length of time. This particular trick requires 2 transitions, and is good practice for other 2-transition throws with 4 balls.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 balls or bags for juggling
  1. Step 1

Learn a basic fountain pattern with 4 balls. If you can't do the fountain with 4 balls comfortably, practice that throwing pattern until you feel very secure in your four ball juggling.

  2. Step 2

Learn the 7, 1, 4 and 5 throws in juggling, which are the throws and transitions that will be used in this pattern, the 7-1-4.

  3. Step 3

Start juggling the fountain with 4 balls.

  4. Step 4

Throw two 5-transition throws, starting with either hand, depending on which hand you're most comfortable throwing the transition from.

  5. Step 5

Throw the 7, followed by an immediate vamp, which is the 1, followed by the 4.

  6. Step 6

Return to the fountain pattern by throwing two more transitional 5 throws. Take advantage of any pause in the timing to regain your rhythm for the 4-ball fountain.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice this 2-transition technique by juggling the base pattern only and not worrying about the second transition. Simply throw the two 5s, the 7, 1 and 4, and then catch the balls clean without transitioning back into the fountain. When you are able to do just the base pattern, then work the second transition.
