Once you've mastered the basic three-ball cascade, you can move onto more difficult juggling patterns. Learning to juggle four balls is challenging, but it's very rewarding and prepares you to tackle more advanced techniques. Although it's probably the hardest four-ball pattern to learn, the asynchronous fountain looks great and pushes your coordination to its limits.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Practice the two-ball fountain in each hand. Holding two balls in your hand at once, toss one into the air in an outward-sweeping arc. Throw the second ball, then catch the first.

  2. Step 2

Juggle the four-ball synchronous fountain pattern. It sounds complicated, but it's not that bad--simply perform the two-ball fountains in each hand at the same time.

  3. Step 3

Start a two-ball fountain in your left hand. Keep the balls or bags close to your body and under control.

  4. Step 4

Begin another fountain in your other hand right after you've tossed one of the balls with your other hand. Your timing can vary a bit according to your skill, but it should feel comfortable and flowing.

  5. Step 5

Keep the two fountains flowing as long as you can.

Tips & Warnings
  • Pay attention to your mistakes and notice when and where you tend to lose control over the pattern. Pinpointing the error makes fixing it much easier.
  • Throwing the balls higher gives you more time to react to their movements. Most jugglers toss the balls at or slightly above head level.
