Step 1
Set the tone of the party with cool invitations and decorations. A few tiki torches and Christmas lights can create a cool party atmosphere that will make your middle-school guests think they're in high school. Ask your parent to help you create something on the computer.
-
Step 2
Find a cool adult to help man the grill. You don't have to ask mom or dad to grill the steaks if you have other options. Consider asking your cool aunt or uncle, or maybe a big brother to help you with the hot stuff.
-
Step 3
Let your friends in on the fun. Consider serving things like shish-kabobs and s'mores to your guests, to get them involved in the action. They can help grill their own meat or roast their own marshmallows, with the proper adult supervision.
-
Step 4
Have plenty of entertainment. Ask guests to bring their favorite CDs or ask someone from school to play some live music. It would be a great way to discover some local talent in your middle school and keep your guests entertained. Also, plan some fun games if your guests are up for it. If you have the space, a game of touch football or soccer is always fun for a coed party.
-
Step 5
Offer your guests a way to get out of the heat. Barbecues can be fun, but if the weather's really hot, your guests will be lining up to call home for a ride. Offer them some shade with a temporary tent or canopy, and have plenty of ice-cold drinks on hand to keep everyone nice and comfortable. A pool is also a fun idea, just make sure to tell your guests to bring their suits.
