How to Do a Wushu Tornado Kick

Learning to do a Wushu tornado kick can be a challenging martial arts move. The tornado kick is made up of a series of movements that flow together. Learning to do a Wushu tornado kick takes lots of practice and requires flexibility and balance to be successful. You can do this martial arts move with or without a weapon.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Set yourself up in the right position by beginning with a few outside kicks. These will also help you build momentum, allowing you to practice shifting your weight from one side to the other as you learn to do a Wushu tornado kick.

  2. Step 2

    Begin in a standing position with your hands down by your side. Run forward a few steps, then hold your arms straight out to your right. Swing your arms around as you jump into the air turning your body.

  3. Step 3

    Bring the left knee up, and then switch legs as you continue to turn kicking all the way around in a semi-circle with the right foot.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wear comfortable, loose fitting, durable clothes. If you are learning to do a Wushu tornado kick, you need to practice in clothes that allow you to move, turn and twist freely.
  • Make sure to regularly perform exercises that increase your strength, flexibility and balance to help you perform this and other martial arts techniques properly.
  • It's very important to know how to fall correctly in martial arts to prevent causing a serious injury.
  • Train under the watchful supervision of a professional martial arts instructor.
  • Stretch to warm up the muscles. You will find as you learn to do a Wushu tornado kick that it is a complicated technique that requires a great deal of flexibility. Stretch to reduce the likelihood of injuries.
