Put the main course in the center of the table to serve as your centerpiece for a dinner party. Have the meat all cut up or on kabobs that guests could take themselves. Garnish the platter with other edibles such as veggies and potatoes. Place large serving forks and spoons all around the platter so that guests can reach in and serve themselves.

Use a chocolate fountain as a centerpiece. Not only are they lovely and playful, but also they are very popular. Set the fruit and candies that are to be dipped the chocolate all around the fountain so that guests can take them from their seat. Too often, a chocolate fountain is set off to the side of a room and doesn't get the attention it deserves. It will not be missed in the middle of the table.

Put a layered cake stand in the center and load each level up with miniature cakes and desserts. Decorate the stand with doilies. Find colorful desserts that go with your party theme. For instance, if it's a Halloween party, fill each level with black and orange cupcakes. For Christmas, the possibilities are endless but should include some red and green goodies.
