How to Heighten the Sense of Taste

You can perform different actions in order to heighten each of your five senses. Heightened senses intensify how you experience life and also make your mind sharper. You can do the following in order to heighten your sense of taste.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Instructions

  1. 1

Dissolve previous odors. Since your taste also depends on your sense of smell, you'll want to eliminate any odors from the membranes found in your nose. To do this, breathe in warm, moist air prior to eating.

  2. 2

Smell everything before you eat. Breathe in the aroma and concentrate on the smell before you start eating the food.

  3. 3

Eat foods that you're not accustomed to. When you visit foreign countries, partake in any delicacies that the locals enjoy. Also, try foods with a lot of spice, like Spanish dishes as well as foods with odd textures, like different types of cheese.

  4. 4

Concentrate on the taste of the food as you chew. Try to identify the different flavors found in each morsel. Take your time to enjoy the various textures as well.

  5. 5

Cleanse your palette. To heighten your sense of smell, you'll want to cleanse your palette between dishes. To do this, eat sherbet between courses.

Tips & Warnings

  • As you age, you may notice a desensitized sense of taste. To make up for this, you can use plenty of spices, like Tabasco and chili powder to flavor your food.
  • You should block out your sense of sight when heightening your sense of taste. Close your eyes while you eat.
