Eating Kosher means avoiding certain foods and food products. One of those products is yeast. Although yeast is one of the main ingredients in baked goods, you don't have to avoid them all together when you practice Kosher eating. By following a few simple guidelines, you can still enjoy the pleasure of eating baked goods and practicing keeping Kosher at the same time.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Buy Challah. It's the traditional bread you eat on the Sabbath and makes a delicious snack or dinner addition.

  2. Step 2

Shop for Kosher baked goods at certified bakeries. You can find listings for these bakeries on the Internet (see Resources). Many offer mail-order service.

  3. Step 3

Purchase brands that offer products that meet Kosher requirements. Bisquick, Pepperidge Farm and Entenmann's are three such brands.

  4. Step 4

Look for the seal of rabbinic supervision on store-bought baked items. You can find a listing of these seals on the Internet (see Resources).

  5. Step 5

Read labels and watch for monoglycerides and diglycerides, shortening, gelatin and stearic acid. These ingredients could be derived from non-Kosher animals or from dairy items. It is best to avoid food containing these items.

  6. Step 6

Avoid buying cakes, pastries, doughnuts and dairy breads unless they are certified Kosher.

  7. Step 7

Be very careful when buying baked goods with food additives. Functions of these additives can be both Kosher and non-Kosher and labels can be misinterpreted.
