Humor can make or break a magic show. Magic shows are nothing if not entertainment for their audiences. It's your job as the magician to entertain and keep the audience captivated for the duration of the show. Humor is a great way to do just that.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Have canned jokes ready to go for your show. Practice delivering the jokes just like you practice the tricks themselves. In fact, practicing the jokes with the tricks will make your routine seem natural.

  2. Step 2

Take yourself lightly. If you go on stage and take yourself lightly and let the show progress naturally, you will have no problem making fun of yourself and the audience. Every magic show performance is different. If you sound unrehearsed, you'll be golden.

  3. Step 3

Tell long story-type jokes during tricks themselves. Telling jokes that go along with the tricks you're performing not only keep the audience captivated throughout the entire tricks, it also occupies the audiences attention while you distract them for certain tricks. End with the punchline at the conclusion of each trick.

  4. Step 4

Be funny but don't be overly funny. Keep your jokes in check. Your job is to entertain the audience, but steer away from being slapstick funny, unless that is what you want to be known for.

  5. Step 5

Monitor what types of jokes your audience reacts to. If you notice during your show that certain jokes don't seem to be a hit, avoid that type of humor. If a certain style appears to particularly entertain your audience, go with that.
