Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get fit to join a cheerleading squad. Cheerleaders need energy to perform dance routines, countless cheers and maintain enthusiasm. Regular exercise helps to build energy.

  2. Step 2

Expect to attend a cheerleading clinic at your school before tryouts. At the clinic, an instructor shows you what cheers you must know for tryouts, any choreographed dance routines you need to memorize and proper techniques for beginner cheerleaders. Ask any questions you may have at the clinic so you know exactly what is expected of you at tryouts.

  3. Step 3

Practice the required cheers and dance moves. Work with the other girls who plan to join the cheerleading squad and ask for constructive criticism. Practice until you feel confident with the moves.

  4. Step 4

Attend tryouts to join the cheerleading squad. During the cheer portion of the tryouts, use a loud, strong voice to chant the cheers. Arm movements should be precise and executed with strength. Cup your hands when you clap and look at the judges while you perform the moves. If you slip up during the routine, recover as best as you can and keep going with the cheer or dance.

Tips & Warnings
  • During tryouts, always maintain a smile on your face to show enthusiasm.
  • Dress appropriately when you attempt to join a cheerleading squad. Wear your hair up and out of your face. Dress in school colors to show your school spirit and leave your jewelry at home.
