Making your own Christmas ornaments is a family tradition you can start with your kids or your grandkids. Moss brings in a natural element and is a good balance to the glitter and shine of so many Christmas ornaments.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Coat the top half of a Styrofoam ball with glue. Only coat the top half so you have a clean, dry area to hold on to and to set down.

  2. Step 2

Cover the glue with moss. The moss doesn't have to be a solid sheet, as you can patch bare spots with smaller bits of moss.

  3. Step 3

Repeat this process on the bottom of your Christmas ornament until the entire styrofoam ball is covered in moss. Give the glue time to dry.

  4. Step 4

Cut two lengths of wide ribbon long enough to go all the way around your Christmas ornament. Wrap them around the ball and glue them into place.

  5. Step 5

Glue moss over the point where the ribbon meets with the star anise. That's the bottom of your Christmas ornament.

  6. Step 6

Make a loop and a bow with a narrow ribbon and glue it to the end opposite the star anise. Use the bow to hang your new Christmas ornament on your tree.

Tips & Warnings
  • Embellish your Christmas ornaments with dried roses by gluing them onto the ornament or using pretty pins to secure them.
  • Cover the bottom of a clear Christmas ornament with moss for a unique holiday tree.
