1. Make a list of items to include in the boxes such as items to cover basic needs for food, clothing and toiletries. Collect fun items for the boxes such as decks of cards and books.
2. Collect or purchase boxes that will be large enough to contain all of the items you will give. Purchase small boxes from moving and storage companies or solicit donations from shoe stores.
3. Include gift cards in the box for fast food restaurants. Purchase vouchers from your local city that are redeemable by homeless for food. Make sandwiches, cookies and other food items at home to include in the box.
4. Buy socks, gloves, stocking caps and small blankets to put in the box. Purchase emergency blankets that are compact in size when using small boxes. Recycle clothing items from your home that are no longer useful to you.
5. Put a toothbrush, toothpaste, bar of soap, hair brush and other toiletry items in each box. Add extra items such as lip balm, lotion and mouth wash when your budget allows.
6. Gather fun items for the box. Put books, card games, dice and other items for entertainment in the package. Add small treasures to the box like old jewelry, flashlights with batteries, battery operated radios, can openers and pocketknives.
7. Donate the boxes to a homeless shelter or deliver the boxes yourself. Stay in well-lit, heavily populated areas when you are delivering the boxes yourself.
