You're raising turkeys to make a profit so you want your turkeys to grow large and healthy quickly. You want to make sure they have all the nutrients they need so they will produce a lot of meat. Use these hints to feed turkeys so they grow healthy and plump.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Commercial turkey feed
Step1
Provide hen turkeys more food than you feed tom turkeys. They take more calories to maintain their weight and produce eggs. Add fat and carbohydrates to their feed so they grow plump quicker.
Step2
Keep the fiber content low in the feed because it will just pass through the body instead of adding to the body weight. This means you will need to add more feed to increase the weight of your turkeys.
Step3
Serve food with a lot of calories in it because it will give the turkeys more energy. Large turkeys need a lot of energy to live and to produce offspring.
Step4
Feed turkeys in a warm area and keep them warm in the winter. Turkeys that stay warm need less food to maintain their body temperatures. They will need more feed if your turkeys are in a cool place.
Step5
Change the amount of feed according to the age of the turkeys. Older turkeys need more feed to maintain their energy levels. Younger turkeys are more energetic and need less feed but turkeys under 8 weeks of age need a special diet so check food labels.
Step6
Give turkeys various nutrients and vitamins such as vitamin E and calcium to keep them healthy. Make sure there is protein in the feed or add soybeans which have protein.
Step7
Make sure the turkeys have plenty of water to keep them hydrated especially in very hot weather.
