How to Raise Pheasant for Profit

Raising pheasants can be a profitable business if done correctly as the game birds are in high demand during hunting season. Pheasant require the right shelter, food and sanitary conditions in order to survive. Learn how to raise pheasant for profit to achieve optimal results.

      Choose how to start your pheasant-raising business. You can purchase pheasant eggs, pheasant chicks or adult pheasant to use as breeders. Pheasant chicks are generally the popular starting point for people who raise pheasant for profit.

      Prepare the brooder house for your pheasant stock. The brooder house should have ample room to hold your current stock of pheasant, plus room for future pheasant. It should be secure to keep out rain, snow and pests. Place straw on the floor as litter for the brooder house and clean the pen often to discourage illness in your pheasant.

      Know how to properly encouraging mating in your pheasant. You should have one male pheasant for every seven female pheasant birds in your stock. Mating season begins in early March. When the time is right, place only one male pheasant in a secluded pen with the female pheasants. Expect approximately 35 to 50 pheasant eggs each breeding season.

      Care for the pheasant eggs. Collect the eggs daily and keep them out of direct sunlight. Incubate the eggs in a cool place.

      Select the right feed when you raise pheasant for profit. Essential foods include mixed grain and oyster shell. Ensure that fresh water is provided for the pheasant several times per day.

  • Don't use wood shavings as litter in the bottom of your brooder house. It is fatal to pheasant chicks if they eat the wood shavings.
