Rockabilly music and fashion has undergone a renaissance recently, due to the popularity of alt rock revival among young musicians and clothing designers. If you want to adapt the look of a real rockabilly chick, just buy a few basic retro items and you'll be well on your way with all the other tattooed Bettie Page wannabes. Here's how to achieve the look.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tattoos
  • Black hair dye
  • High heeled pumps
  1. Step 1

Choose a form-fitting skirt. There's no such thing as a loose rockabilly skirt. Tight black skirts with or without appliqués topped off by pumps and occasionally, fishnet stockings, will make you a retro pin-up girl.

  2. Step 2

Wear a dress that accentuates your figure. Rockabilly dresses highlight the bosom, whether they're low-cut or cover-up. A halter dress can lift up even the smallest bosom and they come in a variety of styles from basic black to gingham. Some rockabilly dresses have full crinoline skirts or petticoats underneath, but they still fit tightly against your backside.

  3. Step 3

Experiment with tops and blouses. Halter tops, like halter dresses, are very popular in rockabilly fashion, and they come in many colors and prints, including the ever popular animal print. Tight fitting sweaters with faux fur collars and white schoolgirl blouses also make the grade in the rockabilly world.

  4. Step 4

Buy capri pants. These tight and stretchy pants that stop three-quarters down the leg remain a staple at retro swing and '50s rock dances. Many young designers offer them in a plethora of colors and prints, black and leopard of course being the most sought after style.

  5. Step 5

Top off your outfit with hair accessories and other adornments. Dyed, pinned up rockabilly hair wouldn't be complete without a fake flower comb or pin in your hair or retro harlequin eyeglasses even if you have 20/20 eyesight. And don't forget the tattoos. Even with the hottest, tightest dress, you can't be a rockabilly chick without one of them somewhere on your body.
