The Case line has been around for over a century. A company can only accomplish this kind of history through hard work, dedication and a superior product line. That is why Case tractors remain popular in spite of the passage of time. Here is how to buy an antique Case tractor so that you'll know you get what you paid for.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Limit your collection because Case manufactured several types of tractors, the oldest being the steam farm tractor which goes all the way back to 1892. Determine what your collection will consist of and limit yourself to that type of tractor when you decide to buy one.

  2. Step 2

Select a model. With so many Case model tractors to choose from, you may wonder what model to select for this purchase. Be sure you have a source for parts or select a model where some parts are interchangeable, for instance the VA line. This is great if you'd actually like to use the tractor instead of just letting it sit there and look pretty.

  3. Step 3

Determine the going rates on websites such as AntiqueTractors.com. They have a listing of what some Case tractors sold for at auction. This gives you a good starting point for the price range you can expect when you buy a Case tractor.

  4. Step 4

Set a budget. Antique Case tractors range from the low range DC models running about $500 to $2000, to the later model 1070 running anywhere from four to seven thousand dollars. Of course this price ranges widely on the condition and state of restoration.

  5. Step 5

Check the tractor in person. Before you sign on the dotted line, be sure to visit the tractor in person and make sure the seller is selling what he advertised. When you decide you got a fair deal, get a bill of sale, complete with a signature from both parties.
