Step 1
Find out how your species of monkey behaves in the wild. That will give you some indication of how they like to play when domesticated.
-
Step 2
Give the monkey a few toys and watch him play with them. The toys should be sturdy and large enough that they can't be swallowed. Monkeys in general enjoy playing with things that they can carry and throw. Lightweight items like empty milk jugs and rubber balls make ideal monkey toys. Also look at baby toys that jingle or play music.
-
Step 3
Make sure that the monkey's toys are made of non-toxic materials. Even if they are large enough that they can't be swallowed, the monkey may still chew on them.
-
Step 4
Create an area where the monkey can swing. A wooden swing or a small tree with plenty of branches can provide a safe place for your monkey to swing and play. These items simulate the natural habitat of most monkeys, making the monkey feel comfortable and at ease.

Step 5
Play without toys. Monkeys love their toys, but it's also fun to set aside some time to play without using toys. Cuddling with the pet monkey, taking him for a walk or singing him a song are all fun ways to relax and play together.
