How to Answer Rude Questions About Adoption
Some people are just nosy and butt into your personal business without being asked. Others are well-intentioned but may be clumsy when trying to show their interest. Then there are those who are just plain rude when it comes to asking you questions about an adoption. Try a few of these tips next time you run into one of those awkward situations.

1
Reply to rude and uncalled for questions by telling the nosy so-and-so that the story is a wonderful one, but it belongs to your child, who may or may not wish to share it when he is old enough.
-
2
Use humor if you're so inclined and feeling witty at the time. Offer a totally way-out response if asked if your child is adopted: "I was just walking down the street and found him laying in a basket on the side of the road" or "I won her in a poker game."
-
-
3
Ignore the rude comment as if you didn't even hear it. Turn your head and walk away if you're in public or totally change the subject if you're in a social setting. You may need to vent later when you're alone.
-
4
Return rudeness with your own brand of venom if you like. "You sure do prattle on about things you know nothing about," will shut down any intrusive busybody.
-
5
Be your wonderful sweet self by smiling and offering a short, curt response and turning away, closing the door on any more rude comments. Teach your child good manners and self-confidence by not letting other people's rude behavior affect your own mood or temperament.
