A garden trellis is a necessary structure for climbing plants and vegetables. Because of the increased weight of climbing plants as they grow and produce flowers or fruit, a garden trellis needs to be sturdy. There are many different materials to use that are very strong but also light in weight.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Choose the shape of your trellis depending on the plant you need it for and where it's located. If your garden trellis is against a wall, a straight design or fan shape works well. If your trellis needs to be free standing in a vegetable garden, an arched shaped or rounded design is the best choice.
Step2
Use PVC pipe for a sturdy straight trellis next to a wall. PVC pipe is great material because it doesn't break easily and blends into its surroundings. Once your plants have grown, the PVC pipe will appear invisible. Attach the PVC to the wall by tying string around the PVC and then to a few nails in the wall.
Step3
Use flexible stakes or strips of wood to make a dome shaped trellis for the vegetable garden. This design gets its strength from the way the bows tie together. Use a criss cross pattern and tie off with strong twine to keep the bows together.
Step4
Build a garden tee pee for climbing vegetables like beans and squash. Simply use some thin strips of wood and tie them together at the top like a tee pee. Your finished trellis should have a complete circle at the bottom.
