Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Regular cement
  • Instant patching cement
  • Water
  • Stepping stone form
  • Sponge
  • Stir stick
  • Rubber gloves
  • Marbles, broken glass, tiles or ceramic pieces and glass beads
  1. Step 1

Rub a thin layer of petroleum jelly over the inside of the stepping stone form, or spray it with non-stick cooking spray. Wipe it with a paper towel to be sure the corners are covered.

  2. Step 2

Mix the regular cement according to the directions on the bag. Pour about 2 or 3 inches of the cement into the stepping stone form.

  3. Step 3

Mix the patching according to the instructions on the package, and pour about an inch of the mixture over the regular cement in the stepping stone form.

  4. Step 4

Press some pebbles, pieces of glass, tiles or ceramic, marbles or other embellishments into the top of the wet cement.

  5. Step 5

Jiggle the form back and forth several times and lightly bounce it on the table or ground to remove any air bubbles from the cement.

  6. Step 6

Allow the stepping stone to set up for at least 24 hours and remove it from the form.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't want to spend the money for stepping stone forms, try things that you may already have around the house, like plastic detergent buckets, or even sturdy pizza boxes. If you use cardboard be sure to line it with plastic.
