Think twice about using a basement or attic for storing your antique collectibles. Like a storage container, basements or attics can experience temperature and humidity extremes that can damage your antiques.

Place antique collectibles in their original boxes with the original packing if possible. This is the best way to protect them from damage.

Store your collectibles in sealed containers so insects can't get in. Rats can chew holes in collectibles, and moths can chew holes through clothing. Even the messes left behind by insects can ruin collectibles.

Make sure if you wrap antiques you use chemical free products. Tissue paper containing acid can damage textiles (clothing, dolls and furniture).

Create an inventory of your antique collectibles, especially if they're little things like knick knacks, dishes or pottery. It's easy for things to go missing or for you to store them improperly if you don't know what's in containers and boxes. This is also important if something happens to your collectibles and you want to file a claim with your insurance company.
