Step 1
Place an earth mound around the bottom of the pool. This will ensure that the pool liner doesn't touch the metal pool frame. Earth mound is a smooth layer of sand that goes at the base of the pool. Remove any rocks or pebbles from this area and smooth it out as much as possible.
-
Step 2
Lay out the pool liner. You will want to lay it out so it's touching the ground, pool walls and earth mound. Don't pull it too tight or you risk creating air space between the liner and earth mound at the bottom. This increases the risk of your liner ripping or tearing while you're using it.
-
Step 3
Hang excess liner of the edge of the pool. You will most likely have extra width and length of the liner. Leave this draped over the edges of sides of the pool.
-
Step 4
Leave any small wrinkles in the pool liner. It's possible to smooth these out after the pool is filled with water, and some smooth out on their own while the pool is filling up. Leaving the wrinkles will allow for extra space in case the liner shrinks over time.
-
Step 5
Fill the pool with water. Check with the manufacturer's manual for your pool to find the optimum fill line. During the filling, check the liner to ensure it isn't being moved or stretched too far. After you have 12 inches of water in the pool, there's generally enough weight to know that the liner is set properly.
-
Step 6
Clamp the liner to the edges of the pool. Once the pool is completely filled with water, use the clamps that came with your pool to secure the liner to the sides of the pool.

on 3/4/2009 This is a great article and the best description of laying a pool liner. Most people don't have the patience though and usually end up messing it up. 5*
