The human face is one of the most difficult things for an artist to draw. Here are some simple steps that will help to guide you in drawing the face properly. It's fun and easy to do once you know some basics. The most important thing in drawing a face is to keep all features placed in the proper place and in proportion with each other.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Look at the shape of the head and try to determine if it is round, oval, square or heart shaped. The jaw line and hairline will help you determine the shape.

  2. Step 2

Begin your drawing with the head based on the shape you have chosen to draw.

  3. Step 3

Keep all of the features on the face in proportion with the rest of the face. Remember to keep the eyes halfway down the face. Draw these in the middle of the top of the head and the bottom of the chin. The length of the eyes is the same measurement as the space between the eyes.

  4. Step 4

Continue to draw the next portion of the face. Divide in half the section of the face just below the eye line to the bottom of the chin. The bottom of the nose will be at the halfway line.

  5. Step 5

Acknowledge that when positioning the mouth you will divide the remainder of the face in half once more. The mouth's edges should be in line with the center of each eye.

  6. Step 6

Add the finishing touches to your face such as the ears, hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, and eye and mouth details.

Tips & Warnings
  • Divide your head in sections to make the placement of facial features easier to determine and draw.
