1
Establish a budget for the customer advisory board. Before starting any business project, you need to construct a budget to control costs. Companies commonly pay the travel expenses of board members to meetings and other benefits such as sport or concert tickets.
-
2
Populate the board with interested and engaged members. Sometimes companies will appoint people to the board as a reward or enticement, but these people are more likely to skip meetings and give lackadaisical feedback. Choose people that want to help the business grow and will give you reasonable and honest information that can benefit the business.

3
Makes sure the customer advisory board meets at least once a year in person. Email and teleconferences are fine, but if that is the only means of communication the members can feel devalued and will quickly lose interest.
-
4
Circulate company material and news to the members of the customer advisory board on a regular basis. If there is any breaking news within the company, make sure to include the advisory board in the communications. However, you do not need to include them on all communication or you risk overloading them with information.
-
5
Implement some of the advice from the customer advisory board and let them know the results. You can't institute all the recommendations from the board but you need to implement the good ideas and demonstrate to the advisory board how they are helping the company reach its goals.
