Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Buy a cloth diaper and demonstrate its ease of use. It's not just the old standard cloth diapers and pins anymore. Many cloth diapers such as G.A.D diapers come with easy snaps that almost anyone can operate. Let Dad practice with one so the process becomes less intimidating.
Step2
Tell him that cloth diapers are better for the baby's health. Many disposable diapers expose your baby to toxic chemicals such as dioxin, Tributyl-tin and sodium polyacrylate. Some of these chemicals are known carcinogens banned in other countries. Some research further indicates that disposable diapers may impact fertility of little boys by raising the temperature of their scrotum.
Step3
Point out the environmental benefits. If Dad is concerned about the environment, remind him that cloth diapers don't end up in the landfill. He may not know that manufacturing disposable diapers creates more than double the waste that manufacturing cloth diapers does.
Step4
Show him the financial benefits. If Daddy has a keen eye for finances, let him know that using cloth diapers saves you money. You spend between $2,500 and $3,500 on disposable diapers when you have a baby. Cloth diapers will cost you about $900, including the cost of washing them. Financially, it just makes more sense.
