Step1
Talk to others about your ideas. Get opinions from family and friends about thoughts you have had. Not only will they give you feedback about whether it is good but they may have a different spin on it.

Be a good listener. When you let people talk and really take in what they are saying you may be surprised at where the conversation will lead you. Talk about subjects that are new to you or that you know little about. Ask them about their line of work or about everyday events.
Step3
Pay close attention to the elderly or younger children when you talk to them. They have interesting ideas and thoughts and may open up some new ideas or things to think about for you.
Step4
Take notes. When an idea or part of an idea hits you, write it down. It is often hard to remember every good thought with so much daily information in your head. By writing it down immediately you can revisit it later and see if it is something worth developing.
Step5
Open your mind to new subject matter. This task can be accomplished by traveling to new places, reading books you are not originally drawn to or trying new sports. By exposing your mind to a variety of topics and activities, you will provide yourself with a larger area to generate ideas from.
Step6
Work your mind. To be able to generate great ideas, you need to keep your mind at the top of its game. You need to keep it busy by doing puzzles, playing games or even looking at art. Make it a habit to question things, whether it is something new you are hearing or a viewpoint that you have long held to be true.
