Step 1
Change the oil every 3,000 miles. Failure to change the oil regularly could cause engine damage.
-
Step 2
Clean the spark plugs every 5,000 miles. Use an emery cloth to clean the electrodes. Damaged spark plugs can prevent your bay window bus from starting.
-
Step 3
Inspect the distributor electrodes, as they often develop rust. Use a small wire brush to clean corrosion. Replace the electrodes if they've corroded excessively.
-
Step 4
Check the brake fluid level and add more if necessary. You'll notice a line on the measuring stick. If the level is below that line, top up the brake fluid.
-
Step 5
Grease the axle every 5,000 to 7,000 miles. Apply an all-purpose grease to the steering idler (located toward the center of the axle) and the four trailing arm bushes located on the ends of the axle.
-
Step 6
Check for leaks or cracks in the fuel lines and hoses and replace any that are damaged. Some people like to use steel lines for their durability.
-
Step 7
Know the proper tire pressure for your bay window bus. If unsure, check your manual. Correct tire pressure is critical for safety reasons. Improperly inflated tires are more likely to lose control and lead to accidents.
