To publish a quality newsletter, you need to know what content you want to cover and you must also decide how you want readers to use your information. By settling those two issues, you'll set the tone for the newsletter you want to publish.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Decide if you're going to publish your newsletter in color or in black and white. If you plan on using artwork or charts, they'll look far more professional if you print them in color.
Step2
Vary the sizes of your text boxes with side bars and other graphics. If your text boxes are all similar is size and shape, your published newsletter will feel flat.
Step3
Use photographs to bring personality to your printed newsletter. You can use any number of photo imaging programs to customize the fit and enhance photographs to create a professional result.
Step4
Determine the final format of your printed newsletter. The most common type has 4 pages of 8 1/2-by-11 inches. If this is what you're after, print your newsletter on 11-by-17-inch sheets and fold each paper in half.
Step5
Choose a way to distribute your printed newsletter. Passive distribution means placing stacks of your newsletter in public areas where anyone can pick it up. Active distribution is targeting your audience through hand delivery or mail.
Step6
Consult with other local publications to see if you can arrange to have your printed newsletter inserted into their publication for delivery. Many publications will do this for a fee.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a high quality paper for your newsletter. If the ink from the newsletter rubs off on readers' hands, chances are good that your newsletter won't be picked up again.
