How to Write a Conversational Style Article

After you read a good conversational style article, you feel as if you've shared a conversation with a friend. A conversational style is appropriate for casual articles on a variety of topics; for instance, most magazine articles are conversational pieces.

Instructions

    • 1

Do the research for your article as you normally would. Gather all of the information, statistics and quotes you need to write your article. Write your article and make sure the information is laid out in a logical manner.

    • 2

Convert your article to a more casual and conversational tone by talking out loud. Explain each section of your article as if you're talking to a friend and record the conversation.

    • 3

Play back the recording and compare it to your rough draft. Note the phrases and words you use in the conversational reading and incorporate those into your written article.

    • 4

Inject humor into the article if it's appropriate for the topic. For example, say something like, "Who hasn't experienced that?" or "Don't you hate when that happens?" to personalize the article content.

Tips & Warnings

  • Edit the article for spelling and grammar. A conversational style is not an excuse for incorrect spelling or poor grammar.

  • Find other writings that are conversational in tone and familiarize yourself with the style before you write your own article.
