1
Buy a blank calendar in the size and format to accommodate the amount of photos you wish to scrapbook. Scrapbooking calendars are typically available in traditional wall versions with room for 12-inch by 12-inch layouts, 8.5-inch by 11-inch versions for horizontal or vertical display and even smaller page-a-day, tabbed styles.

2
Choose photos to correspond with the "theme" for each month (such as Christmas photos for December) or those that feature colors associated with the season (like pastels for January through April). You can also use images from the month's important events like photos from the previous year's birthdays or anniversaries.

3
Design a layout to sit on the top half of the calendar for each month. Affix the photos, paper and accents directly on the blank portion or create a layout on a separate piece of cardstock and then adhere it in the open space. This option would allow you to remove the layout later to frame or store in an album.
-
4
Coordinate the bottom half of the calendar to the layout above it by adhering a few of the same embellishments to a corner, trimming matching patterned paper to affix on some of the dated squares, adding a similar rubber-stamped design along the bottom or cropping a few more photos to affix in the empty squares.
-
5
Add journaling to any lines available on the bottom half of the calendar as soon as the month has passed. Consider writing about the month's highlights, highs and lows, interesting activities or progress on any goals and dreams.
-
6
Attach a pen to the calendar with ribbon so you'll be able to jot down milestones, funny quotes, events and other memorable tidbits in the dated squares throughout the month.

Tips & Warnings
To save time, purchase a scrapbooking calendar kit that features the materials you'll need to create a coordinated project. You'll just need to add photos and purchase basic tools like a paper trimmer, pens and adhesives.
If you're designing a calendar as a gift for a teacher or friend, consider creating layouts with open spots for photos and journaling that the recipient can add on her own. If you're making a baby shower gift, for example, also include a paper trimmer, a roll of photo tabs and a black pen with the gift so she'll have everything she needs to complete pages throughout her baby's first year.
