Letters of hardship are not pleasant and many people would like to ignore the fact that they are having financial problems. However, it is important to know how to write a letter of hardship because financial problems affect everyone.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Start by writing your name, address, phone number and mortgage company, at the top left of your letter, in that order. Hit the enter button twice after writing the appropriate field.

  2. Step 2

    State that you wish them to review your financial situation to determine if you are eligible for a work-out option.

  3. Step 3

    Explain the problems you and your family are having. This may include loss of a house, job, family member, etc. Use as much detail as possible when explaining these problems. Put the date when these problems started occurring.

  4. Step 4

    Determine if you think the problems you are having are temporary or permanent. Include this in your hardship letter to the company. Add a date that you are working towards to resolve these issues.

  5. Step 5

    Sign your name and date on the letter. Send it to the mortgage company. You may want to send the letter through certified mail so you can be certain it reached the appropriate people and wait on the mortgage company to respond to your letter.

Tips & Warnings
  • Letters of hardship do not always get the attention or results one hopes for. Keep this in mind and don't let all your hopes hang from this letter. There is a chance that your request will be denied.
