Step 1
Include the tatting at the edge of a shirt, top or blouse. You can make it look old-fashioned or Victorian by sewing the edge of the tatting to the edge of the clothing item.
-
Step 2
Measure your piece of tatting to make sure it is going to fit the sleeve or the neck of the item. You don't want to begin mounting it and find out it's too short to fit properly.
-
Step 3
Stitch the tatting onto the garment by sewing it through each hole in the tats. Tats are made with threads tied together with knots. You can sew into the holes and over the threads so the tatting can be attached without being seen.
-
Step 4
Make sure you sew the threads into the clothing beneath the tatting so you the tatting stays firmly on the item. You don't want to have it mounted loosely because it may come off in the wash.
-
Step 5
Sew the tatting on very loosely if you want to remove it before washing the garment. You will keep the tatting new looking if you remove it instead of washing it.
-
Step 6
Glue the tatting onto clothing with fabric glue. Add just enough glue to secure the tatting but not too much because you don't want the glue visible. Make sure the glue is washable.
-
Step 7
Add your tatting to the garment by creating the tatting on the edge of a shirt or purse. You can add the stitches to the fabric as you create it.
