How to Score Higher Than 700+ on GMAT

Admission into a MBA program depends on how well you do on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). A good score is absolutely necessary to gain entrance into a top business school. However, it is possible to score higher than 700+ on the GMAT by having a well-planned preparation schedule and an understanding of the layout of the test.

Instructions

    • 1

Understand that the GMAT is an interactive 4 hour test administered on the computer and covers the following areas: reading comprehension, critical reasoning, math data sufficiency, sentence correction and analytical writing. Before you take the test, you need to be completely familiar with the structure, timing and content topics of the exam.

    • 2

Begin to prepare for this test at least 3 to 4 months before the test date. You should spend at least 2 months on studying and reviewing the many topics of the GMAT syllabus. Use the last two months to focus on doing sample tests and practicing the computerized test.

    • 3

Study for this exam by getting preparation or review books as well as the official guide. These guide books give specific and thorough reviews on all topics. For the first two months, devote time each day and study one topic or section at a time to strengthen your skills in these areas. Memorization of some math formulas and concepts can be beneficial.

    • 4

Practice doing sample GMAT test and taking simulated test online. Use the preparation software to familiarize yourself with the test format. You can find this entirely online. Continue practicing for at least a month prior to the test date.

    • 5

Use your computer to practice for the 2 writing essays which are 30 minutes each. Learn to manage your time appropriately so you can finish them in the required time on the day of the test. Practicing on the computer can help you assess your strengths and weaknesses in this area. You may find that you may need to increase your typing speed or hone your writing skills.

    • 6

Know the time limit for each section of the test so you can pace yourself throughout the exam. On the day of the test, you need to manage your time properly because this is a computerized test and you are unable to return to questions once you answer them. Be completely sure of the answer before moving on.

    • 7

Answer every question on the exam and remember that the questions at the beginning of the exam affect your score more than the ones towards the end. Read them carefully and take your time on these and try to answer them correctly. If you are unsure of some questions then use the process of elimination and narrow down the choices and answer it. Follow these tips and you can score higher than 700+ on the GMAT.

Tips & Warnings

  • Enroll in a GMAT preparation course or get a tutor if you have trouble studying for the test.

  • On the day of the test, have breakfast and arrive early to the center. Stay calm and work carefully to avoid making any careless mistakes on the exam.
