Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 8 ounces of Coconut oil
  • 8 ounces of Shea butter
  • 16 ounces of Palm kernel oil
  • 4 ounces of Lye
  • 8 ounces of Half and half
  1. Step 1

Make sure you open up all of the windows in your home. You will need an air flow as you are making the half and half cream soap.

  2. Step 2

Put on a mask that will protect you from any chemical vapours. You will have to wear the mask while you weigh the lye and mix the lye with the half and half cream. Wear gloves as well to protect your hands.

  3. Step 3

Use a pot and heat all of the oils you have and make sure and solid fats are dissolved. Make sure the pot is large enough so that when you have to add the rest of the ingredients it does not splash out of the pot.

  4. Step 4

Leave the oils and lye to cool at 100 Fahrenheit. When you are heating milk you will want to make sure the temperature is much lower than if you were heating water.

  5. Step 5

Add the lye and half and half to the oils once both pots have reached the same temperature of 100 Fahrenheit. Mix them together with a large spoon and allow the chemical process to begin.

  6. Step 6

Make sure you have a soap mold ready. Once the mixture is ready and all the lye particles have dissolved, you can pour the soap mixture into the mold. Let it sit in this mold for 13 to 18 hours and then test it to see if it is hard. Once the mixture is totally hard, you can cut the soap into bars.
