How to Make Fabric Cases for Doll Clothes

One of the fun parts of owning dolls is making and collecting doll clothes. It helps to keep your doll clothes organized so that pieces don't get lost or damaged. Making fabric cases is an easy, inexpensive way to organize and protect your doll clothes.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose two pieces of fabric for your doll clothes case. You can pick any color, pattern and type of fabric that appeals to you but pick fabric that's both breathable and washable.

    • 2

Cut your two pieces to the same size and shape. You can adjust the length and width of your fabrics to suit the clothes you want to protect. For starters, try a case that's 6" wide and 24" long. (This should fit average Barbie clothes.)

    • 3

Line your fabric up with the right sides facing in together. Using a sewing machine or basting by hand, stitch around three of the edges, leaving one side open. Stitch 1/2" in from the edge of the fabric.

    • 4

Trim the seams at the corners. Then, turn the case inside out, so the right side faces you. Use a blind stitch to finish the opening.

    • 5

Fold the length in thirds and blind-stitch together the folded over section that holds the clothes with the sides of the back. The final third is the open section, which you lay over the top, like the flap on a messenger bag.

    • 6

Cut two pieces of ribbon, 9" each. Blind stitch one of the ribbons to the case and one to the edge of the flap. Tie them together to hold the case shut.

Tips & Warnings

  • To save money, use fabric and ribbon scraps that you have left over from other projects.

  • Use acid-free tissue paper if you wrap your doll clothes. Acids in materials like cardboard and certain papers can corrode your dolls and doll clothes.
