The Blockbuster coupon scam is a problem for both consumers and the Blockbuster company. Customers regularly arrive at their local Blockbuster and attempt to honor a fake coupon printed off of the Internet. Exercise caution if you receive an email with a subject line referring to a special deal or offer from Blockbuster. Examine the email closely. Blockbuster only sends email coupons to a members of certain subscription plans (see Resources). If you're not a Blockbuster member, the coupon is not valid.

Open the email to see a Blockbuster coupon. Typically, the coupon offers two free DVD rentals, two 20 oz. drinks and some popcorn. Other coupons offer substantial discounts on DVD and video game rentals.

Print the coupon and take it to your local Blockbuster and ask if the coupon is valid. Tell the clerk or manager that you received it in an email. He can tell you if the coupon is a scam.

Tips & Warnings
Some Blockbuster locations have signs dedicated to advising customers of the fraudulent coupon. Look for these signs around registers or near the doors if you have a coupon and suspect that it is fraudulent.
Do not forward the coupon if you find it in your email inbox. Delete it as soon as you receive it.
